WHY THE NEED?
YOUTH VIOLENCE IS A NATIONAL CRISIS
Thousands of young people experience violence every day in communities across America. Nearly 1 in 5 high school students (19%) reported being bullied on school property in the past year, while more than 1 in 6 experienced electronic bullying.
Homicide is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages 10–24, and the leading cause of death among non-Hispanic Black youth in this age group. Every day, emergency departments across the United States treat more than 800 young people for physical assault-related injuries.
Youth violence doesn't stop with the victim. Its effects reach families, schools and entire communities—impacting physical and mental health, educational achievement, economic opportunity and community well-being.
This is why prevention matters.
